Citing financial issues, Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNC) has announced the closure of three abortion facilities, as of June 30, 2017.
PPNC says it will permanently close its offices in Vacaville, Pittsburg, and Central Richmond, California. All three conduct medication abortions.
Planned Parenthood’s spokesperson, Miriam Gerace, told the Sacramento Bee that one of the reasons her affiliate is closing the abortion locations is because California’s tax-funded Medicaid reimbursement levels are too low.
This news of the downsizing comes on the same day that Planned Parenthood Federation of America released its long-awaited 2015-2016 Annual Report, that shows Planned Parenthood’s overall tax-funding is on the rise in contradiction to the PPNC statements.
“Planned Parenthood seems to be talking out of both sides of their mouth. On one hand, they are struggling to survive, but on the other hand, they are overall financially strong — at taxpayer expense,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “Their ‘poor me’ act plays well to gain sympathy, but it may not be completely truthful.”
The annual report shows that the number of abortions done at Planned Parenthood facilities has risen to 328,348, while the number of patients seen at affiliate centers is down. This means Planned Parenthood is aggressively marketing abortions to more of its patients.
The number of non-abortion services, such as cancer screenings, continue to decrease, according to the report, making Planned Parenthood more focused on abortion than ever.
The California clinic closure announcement brings to 17 the total number of Planned Parenthood facilities that will shutter in the first months of 2017. Of those offices, one offered surgical abortions, seven offered medication abortions, and nine offered only abortion referrals.
Planned Parenthood is undergoing a nationwide reorganization in light of a falling national demand for abortions, defunding efforts on the federal and state levels, and bad publicity resulting from the 2015 release of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress showing Planned Parenthood executives haggling to get top dollar in exchange for aborted baby tissue and organs.
“Planned Parenthood admits it needs a high level of tax-funding in order to survive,” said Newman. “The sooner we can stop our tax dollars from propping up this otherwise-failing abortion business, the sooner more lives will be saved.”
